Light of Love

SettingSun Mar10  Do you ever wonder how there can be so many love songs out there, yet people keep writing more? Surely we will reach saturation point, and run out of ideas or melodies one day? That’s not a new idea … and sometimes the mind ponders such thoughts. But the heart seem beyond ideas. It just keeps on singing … And if you’re lucky, sometimes a beautiful new love song bursts forth.

Every time I write a love song I aspire to it being my ultimate one. I think this one is.  Hope I get to sing it for you soon, and that you’ll do what everyone else seems to do – sing the chorus with me, thinking of someone dear, and the timeless nature of love …

Light of Love

If I couldn’t see you in the light of the moon
Or the glow of the stars in the Milky Way above
If I couldn’t see you even in the brightest sun at noon
I would still see you in the light of love

In the light of love, see you in the light of love
In the light of love, see you in the light of love

If you forget to brush your hair or you wear those funny shoes
If you don’t understand my feelings when the going’s rough
If you leave your dirty clothes and stuff across the bathroom floor
You’re beautiful. And I can only see you in the light of love

Don’t tend to see crazy me in an aura so bright
I go too far, don’t go far enough, can’t seem to get the balance right
Then you come along with your great big heart, embracing all that stuff
Thank you for seeing me in the light of love

When we cannot see each other in the light of the moon
Or the glow of the stars in the Milky Way above
When we can’t see each other even in the brightest sun at noon
I will still see you, you will still see me
We will be together in the light of love

In the light of love, see you in the light of love
In the light of love, see you in the light of love

Timeless Moments

Rush, rush, rush … it’s crazy; cheap muzac blaring in the mall, cars bumping each other in overcrowded carparks, piles of junk no one actually needs, too many sales people …  insanity.  It’s high time I had a timeless moment.

Radha with Ruby webWhich brings to mind one such moment I experienced with my grand daughter; timelessness refreshing me, opening that moment, and my little grand daughter there in it with me, as a beautiful new beginning.  I wanted to capture this in song so I could relive it over and over. And as a songwriter, my dream is that  somehow my song will transport you in a timeless moment too …

I’d love to hear about a special moment you have experienced – click ‘Comment‘ (below), and tell us about it. That way, if enough readers comment, we’ll all get to enjoy quite a few! Here’s one from me for  starters …

Beautiful New Beginning © Radha Sahar

The summer heat is fading. She says
‘Gran – it’s gardening weather’
We plant some kale and cavalo
Gather the pumpkins in
She’s humming a sweet little song
There’s a feeling of forever
We’ve all we need in a morning fresh and new

This is life how it’s meant to be
Simple contentment and harmony
And if I go tomorrow she’ll remember me
In a peaceful autumn day with not a breath of wind
As a wide blue sky sings
A beautiful new beginning

We come indoors, wash our hands
And while Gran prepares dinner
She draws a picture of the sky
With a rainbow in the corner
The sun is bright in her world
It warms the coming winter
We’re kindred souls together on this earth

This is life how it’s meant to be …

She’s my little pumpkin, now asleep
I gaze at her skin – it seems to glow
She’s snuggled in a soft, pink rug
On the floor beside my bed
There’s a shiver in the air
I pull her covers over
She’ll be going home tomorrow bathed and fed

This is life how it’s meant to be
Simple contentment and harmony
And if I go tomorrow she’ll remember me
In a peaceful autumn day with not a breath of wind
Not a breath …
She is my beautiful new beginning

Songline Running

BBG_YES_webYou’re a creative type? Love the buzz of that busy mind bursting forth new ideas? Of course! There’s only one little hiccup; a bug in the cranial software. It’s called ‘conscience’.

This little pest insists on telling you you should be exercising (just when you thought you’d mastered the fabulously healthy skill of dismissing all ‘shoulds’).  It gnaws at you with the ‘exercise’ message, ensuring you faintly recall a virtuous feeling you had when you did some years ago. But a huge groan keeps pace with conscience, fuelling an ongoing battle for songwriters like me, who are notorious for not exercising anything other than the mind. Until now.

Today,  a new sport, Songline Running, invented itself. And it’s not the regular sport of running with headphones on.  It goes like this:

You take up Songline Running, (having a name for something always helps).  In your first session, totally new, (and, you tell yourself, ‘vastly better’), songlines run through your mind as you run – (and, you tell yourself, this is the only way they come in at this level). Even miniature runs yield this quality of creative occurrences.  I call my miniature runs ‘shuffles’ …

Then follows the best bit. You treat yourself with the well deserved REWARD – (you might need to picture the reward before you begin, to get you out the door in the first place). And the reward is? Vastly better songlines of course, (or poetry if you’re a poet, novel ideas if you’re a novelist, and so on). You get to slam all that breakthrough, higher level brilliance into your songwriting software the moment you get home. Athletes call this a ‘warm down’ – you see them stretching in all sorts of gangly poses after the run. But for we ‘arteests’ the best ‘warm down’ is to ‘get it down’ … I’ve just completed my first Songline Run and I couldn’t wait to tell you!  I’m FULL of world-shattering new ideas.

Next time I post a song, you’ll be so impressed you’ll immediately take up the sport yourself, (that is, unless you’re already impressed with this triumphant little article, in which case, you’ll take up the sport now). OK. I’ve warmed down getting this all down. And I’ve popped those gorgeous new lines into my songwriting software, which I reckon is thanking me. Now it’s time for brekkies.

Have I convinced you? Then please let me know how you go!

Warm Hearted Friends

Your response as I exude gratitude to you as a warm hearted friend?
Chandan Jutta Yana & Rubys Hairdo SM “My goodness!
Most appropriate – you are full of it. Pat yourself on the back and enjoy it.

“Thank goodness!” I reply, thanking you … (the embodiment of goodness itself).

It follows that you also have many good friends. And you’ll need a song to thank them all.  There are so many good people out there to thank, and everyone needs a song now and then. You can thank me for writing this one if you like … remember, it’s for you! Thank you all.

Sometimes I shiver on a cold winter’s day
Friends, when you’re around I never feel that way
Barely need the heater, forget to light the fire
You radiate such a great glow!

It’s so cosy here coz of you
It’s that warmth and cheer in the little things you do
It’s so cosy here, sunny too
The sweetness in happiness depends
On having warm hearted friends like you

You make the world a better place. I wanna do that too
To shine a light together – a little spark or two
Along with you I wanna do some good – is that naive?
You keep me believing that I can

It’s so cosy here  …

“My goodness” you say. And well you may
Coz goodness is your middle name. I know you’re
Sure to reply that we’re all good inside
All the more reason for me to say

Look around the room – we’re only here for a while
Time enough to give someone a hug or a smile
Time enough to thank someone
For the little things they do
That is why I‘m here thanking you

It’s so cosy here coz of you
It’s that warmth and cheer in the little things you do
It’s so cosy here, sunny too
The sweetness in happiness depends
On having warm hearted friends like you

From Flaps to Wings

A Happy EndingLadies! – Time to laugh and take off …  Free ‘Defy Gravity Now‘ tickets to any woman answering ‘yes’ to the following questions …

1. Are your no-longer-firm biceps slipping ‘down under’?
2. Is your choice of going-out garments restricted to those with ‘a nice little cover-up sleeve’?
3. Is your mental composure severely compromised at the sight of your anatomy as you engage in a deep, forward bend?

Having answered yes to the above of late, I had to do something about it. I began eating Plant Strong – (plus checkout this beaut Plant Strong Facebook page). I liked this way of eating but, better still, it loved me. I’m now 13 kgs lighter and bursting with energy, so I joined the gym.  I love that too, and signed up for the long haul body-sculpting bit.

However, more than my gym routine was needed to get my stubbornly sagging biceps to actual lift off point.  I tried everything and nothing worked. After much research,  I decided only a song could take me there.

Stop flapping about and start to Fly!!! …  Simply click the link below, have a read and pin it up on the wall as a reminder, or see me on stage to turn your Flaps into Wings!

Paws … Pause

It’s Women’s Day, evidently. So BoomerAgeBaby Boomer Girl penned a new song to celebrate the ‘don’t mention it’ aspect of being a woman at the esteemed ‘mature & wise’ stage of life.  What do you think of this little ditty? You’re welcome to comment whether you are ‘mature & wise’ … or not.

By the way, can you keep up with all these ‘days?’ Was your local park also humming recently celebrating Children’s Day? Have you heard? – it’s the “International Year of Quinoa?” Is ‘Men’s Day” coming up soon?  I’m trying to keep up with the days as I love life, like kids, and  quinoa is complete protein, and it’s quite tasty.  But Women’s Day has got to be a biggie – something to celebrate – whether you are one or you love one – or whether you’ve got the right day in the calendar year or not.
Here’s the song … enjoy! :)

Women, they say, are like a book
Hard to read but it’s easy to look
They might dress up in leopard skin tights
They’re animal types
When they set their sights on you

They’re either apples, bananas or pears
But I say women are cuddly bears
They might dress down for household chores
But love’s in store
When they wrap their paws around you

Now it’s time to pause, babe
For more than a cup of tea
Time to pause, babe and
Wrap your paws, your pretty paws around me

Women are beautiful at every age
Even at the ‘don’t mention it’ stage
When they mention being ‘oh so wise’
They realise that ‘men’ pause is for guys

Women turn up with plates of food
Often in a playful mood
Wild cats or quiet birds in the nest
You are blessed
Coz they give their best to you

Now it’s time to pause, babe
For more than a cup of tea
Time to pause, babe and
Wrap your paws, your pretty paws around me

A New Take on Valentine’s Day

valentineYour partner is not into it? You don’t have a partner – (and you’re not looking either)? So what?$#!! This is a day to smell the flowers, to even eat a little bit of dark chocolate … and to write a ditty just for the heck of it.  So you wrote it in a card and sent it to yourself? Good on you! If you’re not the ditty-writing type, here’s one of mine you are welcome to croon out to the night air, send to a lusciously desired love or, more realistically, to read to your partner snoring in the chair …

I’m planning to read it during my set at Lily’s Ranch House on Valentine’s day – it’s a great place to enjoy being real, so they won’t mind. The music is  fun whatever comes, and the atmosphere makes you not want to go. Peter Leith and friends sing and play, and Baby Boomer Girl is strutting her stuff there quite often on a Friday night too: Lily’s Ranch House, 137 Fairfield Road, Levin, Tel: 06 3670251

You’ve got a couple of days to write a love poem or song, and we would love to read it. Post your masterpiece via the ‘Comments’ facility below – and wait for the accolades, and maybe some romance, to pour in!

A Chocolate Rose

Tis said St Valentine fervently prayed
To serve a world divinely made
His deepest prayers to the almighty
Were also heard by Aphrodite
So he was blessed from high above with
A double dose of divine love!

What to do with the overflow?
So much love and nowhere to go!
(No planes or cars on air or street;
He only had two sandalled feet)
Luckily Cupid rescued the fellow
Providing wings and a bow and arrow

Now every year around Beltane
The forces of love conspire to inflame
Each heart to soar and seek a mate
And you, my love, I ask to take
Will you be my Valentine
To share with me the love divine?

Would you I pledge my life this day?
Or rather you fancy an evening’s play?
(For love is love whether lofty or sporty
Long live God and Aphrodite!)
My love! To sport in tryst with you – Yes!
To St Val – a chocolate rose or two!
