Beautiful New Beginning

Each moment is a new beginning …  each generation … How to remember this in the ongoing push of the day, the addictive pull of the blue-light screen? … Like all the plastic in the ocean no one needed in the first place, our lifestyle is locked afloat … and we, caught up in it all, rushing around … insanity …  I shelter a while in a cafe …

Barista art in chocolate dust swirls across my coffee, an exquisite heart anchored in delicate, creamy froth  …  perfect … reminds me love is … And I remember …

It’s a clear autumn morning in the garden. I’m with my grand daughter, dirt on our hands, sun on our faces. A wave of stillness pervades my being …  A wide opening to the day, and to her presence, anchors this timeless moment, refreshing a page in my life story. It’s a beautiful new beginning for me… a song for her and maybe for you …

Beautiful New Beginning © Radha Sahar

The summer heat is fading. She says
‘Gran – it’s gardening weather!’
We plant some kale and cavolo
Gather the pumpkins in
She’s humming a sweet little song
There’s a feeling of forever
We’ve all we need in a morning fresh and new

This is life how it’s meant to be
Simple contentment and harmony
And, like I recall my Gran, will she remember me
On a peaceful autumn day with not a breath of wind?
As a wide blue sky sings
A beautiful new beginning

We come indoors, wash our hands
And while Gran prepares dinner
She draws a picture of the sky
With a rainbow in the corner
The sun is bright in her world
It warms the coming winter
We’re kindred souls together on this earth

This is life how it’s meant to be …

She’s my little pumpkin, now asleep
I gaze at her skin – it seems to glow
She’s snuggled in a soft, pink rug
On the floor beside my bed
There’s a shiver in the air
I pull her covers over
She’ll be going home tomorrow bathed and fed

This is life how it’s meant to be
Simple contentment and harmony
And, like I recall my Gran, will she remember me
On a peaceful autumn day with not a breath of wind?
Not a breath …
She is my beautiful new beginning

Warm Hearted Friends

Patricia & Radha chum BVsYou know the ones … who stick by you … who smile, hug and comfort you … I wrote this song to thank you. It’s going on my album. I was in full swing recording, when my dear, sweet, wonderful dad passed away.

I needed you then, friends, and you were there. I came to a grinding halt missing him … He sang in a choir. Music & humour spilled out of him constantly. I knew he’d want me to sing, to finish my album. That’s my warm hearted friend, Patricia with me in the photo. We’re about to sing together … I’m recording again with Steve. Feels great.

Nothing comes in ones … especially warm hearted friends – many of us are blessed to have many. Thank you all, dear friends in this world and the next …

Warm Hearted Friends
Sometimes I shiver on a cold winter’s day
Friends, when you’re around I never feel that way
Barely need the heater, forget to light the fire
You radiate such a great glow!

Thank you, my warm hearted friends
You light up my life, keep the sun shining through
Thank goodness for warm hearted friends
Warm hearted friends like you

You make the world a better place. I wanna do that too
To shine a light together – a little spark or two
Along with you I wanna do some good – is that naive?
You keep me believing that I can

Thank you, my warm hearted friends …

“My Goodness!” you say – and well you may;
Coz goodness is your middle name!
I know you’re sure to reply that we’re all good inside.
All the more reason for me to say …

Look around the room – we’re only here for a while
Time enough to give someone a hug or a smile
Time enough to thank someone for the little things they do
That is why I‘m here thanking you

Thank you, my warm hearted friends
You light up my life, keep the sun shining through
Thank goodness for warm hearted friends
Warm hearted friends like you

Light of Love

SettingSun Mar10  Ever wonder how there are so many love songs out there, yet people keep writing more? Surely we’ll reach saturation point? … run out of ideas or melodies one day? But love keeps on singing … And if you’re lucky, sometimes a beautiful new love song bursts forth.

Every time I write a love song I hope it’s my ‘golden’ one … a timeless song. They tell me this one is … they sing the chorus with me, thinking of someone close …

Light of Love

If I couldn’t see you in the light of the moon
Or the glow of the stars in the Milky Way above
If I couldn’t see you even in the brightest sun at noon
I would still see you

In the light of love, see you in the light of love
In the light of love, see you in the light of love

If you forget to brush your hair or you wear those funny shoes
If you don’t understand my feelings when the going’s rough
If you leave your dirty clothes and stuff across the bathroom floor
You’re beautiful. And I can only see you
In the light of love, see you in the light of love …

Don’t tend to see crazy me in an aura so bright
I go too far, don’t go far enough, can’t seem to get the balance right
Then you come along with your great big heart, embracing all that stuff
Thank you for seeing me in the light of love

When we cannot see each other in the light of the moon
Or the glow of the stars in the Milky Way above
When we can’t see each other even in the brightest sun at noon
I will still see you, you will still see me
We will be together

In the light of love, see you in the light of love
In the light of love, see you in the light of love

Songline Running

BBG_YES_webYou’re a creative type? Love the buzz of that busy mind bursting forth new ideas? Of course! There’s only one little hiccup; a bug in the cranial software. It’s called ‘conscience’.

This little pest insists on telling you you should be exercising (just when you thought you’d mastered the fabulously healthy skill of dismissing all ‘shoulds’).  It gnaws at you with the ‘exercise’ message, ensuring you faintly recall a virtuous feeling you had when you did some years ago. But a huge groan keeps pace with conscience, fuelling an ongoing battle for songwriters like me, who are notorious for not exercising anything other than the mind. Until now.

Today,  a new sport, Songline Running, invented itself. And it’s not the regular sport of running with headphones on.  It goes like this:

You take up Songline Running, (having a name for something always helps).  In your first session, totally new, (and, you tell yourself, ‘vastly better’), songlines run through your mind as you run – (and, you tell yourself, this is the only way they come in at this level). Even miniature runs yield this quality of creative occurrences.  I call my miniature runs ‘shuffles’ …

Then follows the best bit. You treat yourself with the well deserved REWARD – (you might need to picture the reward before you begin, to get you out the door in the first place). And the reward is? Vastly better songlines of course, (or poetry if you’re a poet, novel ideas if you’re a novelist, and so on). You get to slam all that breakthrough, higher level brilliance into your songwriting software the moment you get home. Athletes call this a ‘warm down’ – you see them stretching in all sorts of gangly poses after the run. But for we ‘arteests’ the best ‘warm down’ is to ‘get it down’ … I’ve just completed my first Songline Run and I couldn’t wait to tell you!  I’m FULL of world-shattering new ideas.

Next time I post a song, you’ll be so impressed you’ll immediately take up the sport yourself, (that is, unless you’re already impressed with this triumphant little article, in which case, you’ll take up the sport now). OK. I’ve warmed down getting this all down. And I’ve popped those gorgeous new lines into my songwriting software, which I reckon is thanking me. Now it’s time for brekkies.

Defy Gravity – Uplift that Sagging Body!

A Happy EndingLadies!
1. Is everything in your body falling down?
2. Do your going-out garments have to have ‘nice little cover-up sleeves’?
3. Is your mental composure lost at the look of your anatomy while engaging in a forward bend?

Having answered yes to the above, I had to do something about it. I tried the gym … and lasted about two minutes. Then, breakthrough … a way to get my stubbornly sagging biceps to actual lift off point. This song does the trick! Try it yourself – download the lyric, pin it on the wall as a reminder, or dance along. Turn  that wrinkled flab into wings!

Gravity

Good old Newton had a flash
Evolved the idea, gave it a bash
Wrote it on paper for all to see
And now we have the theory of gravity
What was firm is not so sound
What stayed up must come down
Look at great grandma and you will see
The long term effect of gravity!

Gravity, gravity
It’s all happening to you & me
Everything’s falling down, you see
Y’ gotta laugh in the face of gravity

What was tight is growing slack. You want your youthful figure back
Hormones, botox and breast reduction, face lift, tummy lift, liposuction
Work – Meanwhile y’ can’t go wrong uplifting the lot in dance and song
Forget the lines, ladies! Sing with me, and laugh in the face of gravity

Gravity, gravity – It’s all happening to you & me …

But Newton’s in a grave situation
Physicists across the nation say
Our subatomic essence is totally free
Beyond the pull of gravity!

Quantum physics says your face consists of little – mainly space
Celebrate! It could be worse – Our essence is the universe!
So why not entertain this truth & drink from the quantum fountain of youth?
Uplift that gynecology, and laugh in the face of gravity!

Gravity, gravity, it’s all happening to you & me
Everything’s falling down, you see
Gotta laugh in the face of gravity

Paws … Pause

BoomerAgeI like using humour when it comes to ‘don’t mention it’ aspects of being a woman at the esteemed ‘mature & wise’ stage of life … Enjoy!

Paws
© 2013 Radha Sahar

Women, they say, are like a book
Hard to read but it’s easy to look
They might dress up in leopard skin tights
They’re animal types
When they set their sights on you

They’re either apples, bananas or pears
But I say women are cuddly bears
They might dress down for menial chores
But love’s in store
When they wrap their paws around you

Now it’s time to pause
For more than a cup of tea
Yes it’s time to pause babe, and
Wrap your paws, your pretty paws around me!

Women are beautiful at every age
Even at the ‘don’t mention it’ stage
When roller-coaster moods subside
They’re free! They find that that pause
Makes them wise – very wise!

Now it’s time to  pause …

Women turn up with plates of food
Often in a playful mood
Wild cats or quiet birds in the nest
You are blessed
Coz they give their best to you

Now it’s time to pause
For more than a cup of tea
It’s time to pause, and
Wrap your paws, your pretty paws around me!

It’s Valentine’s Day – Be Risque!

valentineYour partner is not into it? You don’t have a partner – (and you’re not looking either)? So what?$#!! This is a day to smell the flowers, to eat a little dark chocolate … and to write a ditty just for the heck of it.  So you wrote it in a card and sent it to yourself? Good on you! If you’re not the ditty-writing type, here’s one of mine you’re welcome to croon out to the night air, send to a lusciously desired love or, more realistically, to read to your partner snoring in the chair …

A Chocolate Rose

Tis said St Valentine fervently prayed
To serve a world divinely made
His deepest prayers to the almighty
Were also heard by Aphrodite
So he was blessed from high above with
A double dose of divine love!

What to do with the overflow?
So much love and nowhere to go!
(No planes or cars on air or street;
He only had two sandal’d feet)
Luckily Cupid rescued the fellow
Providing wings and a bow and arrow

Now every year around Beltane
The forces of love conspire to inflame
Each heart to soar and seek a mate
And you, my love, I ask to take
Will you be my sweet Valentine
To share with me that love divine?

Would you I pledge my life this day?
Or rather you fancy an evening’s play?
(For love is love – lofty or sporty
Long may you live – and Aphrodite!)
To my love! – I’ll sport in tryst with you!
To St Val – a chocolate rose or two!

A New Woman on the Honours List

Aunty-Phylis What woman would you nominating for The Honey & the Star award? No doubt you’ve several in mind.  Tell us a little about those special women – we can’t wait to read about them!

The Honey & the Star

Do ya wanna hear a picture of a walking inspiration?
She’s an open invitation to a heart that needs to love
She makes you sing and smile. She’s a honey, free and wild
She’s the warmest lady, aunty, grandma, mother, loyal friend

She’s all around the country – her home is everywhere
She has a place for everyone. Everyone has a place for her
She wraps her arms around you, you never want to leave
Her belly laugh is so relaxed, her life a summer breeze

Yes, lovely lady, I’m talking about you
Singing all your praises – the country, it should too
And give you a medal – how wonderful you are!
In my honours list you’ve won The Honey & The Star

Friends, she’s got a certain style – it’s sort of ‘universal’
You know when she’s around coz there’s a smile everywhere
I cannot put my finger on what it is about her
It’s a privilege to know her – it’s a buzz to have her near
Yes, lovely lady …

She has so much to teach you that you cannot find in writing
And you feel she is inviting you to a party or to tea
She’s clear & quite uncluttered – though her list is overflowing
That reminds me, time is going. It’s another new year’s eve

Well if this song is pretty it is just a spark of her beauty
Such an awesome woman – a treasure I have found
Her love will shine forever. Take a moment to remember
To express a little thank you – she won’t always be around

Breaking Up is Hard to Do

Deep_&_Meaningluls I didn’t have a clue what it was like to break up when I sang that old ‘Breaking Up is Hard to Do, song, way back when. I heard it recently on the radio and for the first time, actually thought about it’s quaint old lyrics, and the painful break-ups we experience along love’s way.

When life is bustling and family and friends are planning happy get-togethers, what if you can’t get together with the one you love?  What if you recently broke up, and everyone’s trying to cheer you up? … and it makes you feel even more down? – like they don’t really ‘see’ you.  Would that my song, in some small way, help see you through …

More Love

Two hearts beating as one – that’s how it seemed to be
Suddenly you’re breaking up. It’s hard, and hard to believe
You thought alike, or so you thought, then a rift began to show
Now you’re drifting poles apart
From a soul you hardly know

When do you sing your own song? How can you cross the sea?
When do you give up hope that things could change if only …
Letting go is hard, I know. You lie awake in the dark
Still the tears fall. You gave your all
You got so much love in your heart

You got more love, much more love to give
You got more life, much more life to live
Through the grieving, and the lows,
Keep believing in yourself. I can’t help feeling
You got more love tomorrow to receive
More love

In times gone by we found a mate and gave ourselves away
Our hearts could break only once
And if they did, they had to stay that way
These days life is kinder – we can find ourselves again
You would say to me, I know
So I say, beautiful friend

You got more love, much more love to give
You got more life, much more life to live
Through the grieving, and the lows
Keep believing in yourself – I can’t help feeling
You got more love tomorrow to receive
Hang on in there, there’s more love to receive
More love … in it’s own time,  more love

A Happy Ending

Quotes: the world is full of them. Facebook, Twitter, your email inbox, probably chokka … sometimes it’s all a bit tooooo inspiring!

But once or twice in a lifetime a quote stops you in your tracks. The words turn in your mind, arriving at a perfect juncture – a gift  from someone you’ll probably never meet. Here’s one that changed me recently …

Nobody can go back and start a new beginning. But anyone can start today and make a new ending’ – Maria Robinson.

Maria! There will be people creating new endings all over the place! Who knows what will happen? A new ending is opening up for me already! A new home in a new town. Fantastic soil in which to grow organic veges. New friends to make. New songs to write and musos to jam with… A life-changing, happy ending every day.

A Happy Ending
(c) Radha Sahar

Someone wrote a quote on the wall in the mall café
Says, ‘You can’t go back and make a new beginning
But anyone can start today – and make a new ending’
“That’s it!” you smile at me and say

Here we are. Here and now
Everything will fall into place somehow
Lucky star, brand new ground
Here’s to starting a happy ending now!

New direction, gift in the moment, every day
Over the same old same old, embracing the unknown way
Snap decision every minute
I’ll smile at you and say “Here we are …

Thanks, whoever wrote that quote originally
Never met you, but you changed my life. Surely you must be
A source of wisdom, a force, a fountain
Giving to all and all for free

Here we are. Here and now
Everything will fall into place somehow
Lucky star, brand new ground
Happy ever after, bliss or blues, tears or laughter
And this song’s starting a happy ending now!
